St. Joseph's was finally completed in 1906, but it was not until 1931 that it became an independent parish. On the alter the tabernacle is mounted on a stand with a picture of a pelican underneath. "The pelican is a strong symbol - the mother bird feeds her young from her own body-Jesus feeds us with his body and blood during the Mass." The alter itself has a picture of a lamb on it which symbolises Jesus as the 'Lamb of God' - the sacrificial lamb that takes away our sins. The Lady's chapel in this church is designed to copy the grotto at Lourdes, where Mary appeared to St. Bernadette.
